Balloon Letting Co. chips in to become homeless charity partner

Balloon Letting Co. is delighted to announce The BillyChip®️ Foundation as its charitable partner.

The BillyChip®️ Foundation was set up in 2019 to continue the legacy of the late Billy Abernethy-Hope, a 20-year-old ambulance driver from Bristol who was the inspiration and idea behind the BillyChip – a poker chip-style token that can be redeemed for food and drink in approved outlets such as Greggs.

The drive towards a cashless society has made these even more challenging times for homeless people but BillyChips, which can be bought from participating outlets and then donated to a homeless person, provide a solution to the problem.

The value of the BillyChip, however, goes way beyond its actual worth, because donating one to a homeless person also encourages social interaction that is so often missing from their lives and that in turn can lead to mental health issues.

Balloon Letting Co. founder and Managing Director, Ben Giles, was only too delighted to support the charity once he heard about its vision and values.

“I’d been looking for a charitable partner for ages, and I met the BillyChip people at the Bristol Life Awards. They gave me a chip and when they told me about the message behind it and what they were doing, it really resonated with me,” explained Ben.

“I think it is a really cool idea; they are Bristol-based, they started around the same time as us, they are family run and they share a load of the same views, plus if we are going to support anything a homeless charity fits in well with what we are doing.”

In November, Ben will be taking part in a charity fundraiser for the BillyChip®️ Foundation. More details to follow.
